Melody Assistant is an impressive score editing and composing tool for Windows. Sporting a Macintosh-like look (the program exists for Macintosh as well), it features an integrated digital sound editor and database, letting you use your own digital sound effects in your music. A floating mixing-board window lets you tweak your mix in real time. Melody Assistant has a powerful, though somewhat cluttered, music editing interface and can even produce guitar tablature and chord diagrams. Compose your masterpiece, then save it in MIDI, MOD, Band In A Box, or CMF format. Melody Assistant even works with MIDI Karaoke (.kar) files. When entering information on a staff, you might find performance to be a bit sluggish. Even so, at this price, Melody Assistant's feature set is hard to beat. This version has not yet been reviewed.
